The gallery is situated in the heart of Matlock town with a wonderful view and beautiful light, which fills the gallery space for most of the day.

The space

Space defines painting and sculpture and they can also define space. People can walk around the huge space whilst viewing paintings on the wall and sculptures on plinths. Both can be viewed in to relationship to one another and complement each other beautifully. The space has only recently been converted and has an expansive floor and attractive wooden floorboards, which reflect the light to great effect.

Your chance to show your artwork

Etienne Gallery is offering artists a chance to show their work in the busiest part of the town and because of it’s location and it’s position above the art shop ‘In the Flow’, it boasts the unique opportunity for artists to get the maximum exposure of their work.

We also offer some unique opportunities for artists who exhibit their work, which will include the following:

  • Shop window Monitor

This will preview all of the artists work and provide a short biography of the artist as well. The 40” widescreen monitor will run 24/7, so even when the shop is closed, the public will still be able to view artists work.

  • Press

We will be taking out adverts in Arts Beat magazine, which is distributed all over the East Midlands and other papers such as Derbyshire Times, Derby Evening Telegraph and Peak Advertiser.

  • Social Media

As well as promoting artists work through our website, we aim to represent artists through our social media links such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Research shows that making connections through websites and social media, give global exposure and enhance sales and networking.

What do you get?

This is an incredible opportunity for any established or new artist to get maximum exposure of their work. The gallery is already getting the attention of artists, art buyers and other business’ in the area and beyond, due mainly to the recent sell out show, and is set to grow in 2015/2016.

What do we get?

We get the chance to create an exciting space, which is dedicated to a culturally diverse group of artists, and make Matlock the hub for all creative endeavors. This will put Etienne Gallery on the artistic map and make it a global player within the world art market.

We aim to have a show every 2 months. Before the next show, we will ask you to do the following:

  • Attend the Opening Reception

  • Attend the closing of the show

Artists are of course welcome at the gallery anytime, either to chat or amend their work

Etienne Gallery pays its rent and operating costs, while providing public relations and marketing support, by renting wall space to member artists on a monthly basis. Wall space cost is £60 per month. The wall space runs six feet wide and nine feet high, floor to ceiling.

or £30 per month for a metre wide and nine feet high floor to ceiling space. We also offers floor space for sculpture and ceramics and there is a maximum of three - five feet by five feet square areas for £50 per month, per space.

Commissions

Etienne Gallery takes pleasure in giving 70% of the art sales back to the member artist. When artwork is sold, 70% goes to the artist, and 30% goes to the gallery and is used for gallery maintenance, improvements, and other costs. Member artists price their own work. Most of the art sold at Etienne Gallery falls within the £60 to £2000 price range.

Exhibiting artists are responsible for insuring their own art or assuming the liability. We run as a boutique gallery so when art is sold, it is taken off the wall and the customer leaves with it. You then replace that artwork with a new piece. With our opening show, we had the experience of selling multiple times in a day and quickly had to replace the bare wall with new artwork! We are really excited about the amount of art that was sold in our opening show, making over £2000 in the month, which was extremely good. We attribute this in part to our our fantastic location in the heart of Crown Square Matlock, that brings us new visitors and tourists every day, and to local people too.

Exhibiting in the gallery

Payment for space is required at the time of signup. You can also sign up in advance, months before a show, which would give you the artist plenty of time to either gather existing work or generate new work too.
